“when a person really desires something, all the universe
conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”
– Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist)
For the past one month, I was contemplating on what topic to choose as a subject for my Main Prose’s scholarly paper and FINALLY, I have decided or rather struck home on Paulo Coelho and his famous book The Alchemist.
As I was reading his biography in Wikipedia , I found that when he told his mom that he wanted to become a writer, his mom asked him “do you realize what it means to become a writer?” ; to give her a proper answer, Coelho did a research and found that a writer “always wears glasses and never combs his hair” and has a duty and an obligation never to be understood by his own generation,” among other things. He was sent to an asylum due to his obsession for writing.
Ha! now, think about that!! I certainly do wanna become a writer…and if you actually think about it….HELL!! looks like I AM born to be a writer!!(Let’s forget the bit about the spectacles, shall we?? 😉 ). HOW COOL IS THAT??!!! Whoa…wait a sec….thankfully,my parents won’t send me to an asylum (i think!! ).
I know that it is a bit late to be posting about your “New year Resolutions” but let me tell you dear reader, that it was a deliberate step from my part…(so forgive me if I sound lame.) I don’t think I ever mentioned before but the sole purpose of me starting this blog was to gain some level of maturity and as 2011 settled in I decide to take some time and decide the best resolutions with this goal in mind… and so here is the list that I have finally drawn together:
BLOG EVERY WEEK: Yes, if you go through my articles’ dates so far you will find that there has been no stability in the gaps between two articles. So I have decided to be a bit more systematic about this. I shall post AT LEAST three articles a week (I won’t promise 7 articles a week because I have to be true to my self and I don’t think I am THAT punctual… 🙂 )
READ AN INDIAN BOOK EVERY MONTH:Even though I am a bookaholic,I have never tried reading a book written by an Indian. And me being an Indian AND a literature student it is a shame.
READ A NON-FICTION BOOK EVERY WEEK.
GET RID OF MY COMPLEX:I have a BIG complex. It is something that I have lived with for such a long time that, now it feels like an albatross around my neck; and I have decided to get rid of it whatever it takes. So world,HERE I COME!!!! 🙂
BE MORE GRATEFUL TO GOD: “Oh! give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endures for ever.”(psalm 107:1,118:1).I have never been more ungrateful, than I was in the year 2010 and I can’t go on like this anymore.
MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE BOOKS I READ THIS YEAR.
COLLECT AS MANY RECIPES AS POSSIBLE.
TRY TO BE THE KIND OF DAUGHTER MY PARENTS WANT ME TO BE.
So… there is one person from my class that I have not mentioned yet.I CAN’T BELIEVE I DIDN’T MENTION HER AT ALL!!!! :O (screw me Rose….forgive me.you know exactly how an ass I am at times… 😉 )Her name is RoseMary Alexander; short name Rose.Oh…. by the way,it is very easy to make her blush!!!
She the is one person to whom I first turn to when I have a problem.Of all the fun that I had with her, the time that I will treasure the most was the Teresian week…that one week I went to college ONLY because of her…and oh! how we bunked the last day of Teresian week morning session to buy a purse for one of my friend’s sister….dear God in heaven!!! SHE ROCKS!!!!But people beware…when she is angry you seriously don’t wanna mess with her…. she can bring tears in your eyes!! :-$
I really thank God for giving me an opportunity to be her friend(though I don’t deserve such kindness). Our taste of books are the exact opposite; if i like romance she HATES romance to quote her ” I like the sort of books which bothers me for days after reading them; i can’t stand mushy stuff.” She does NOT like The Twilight Saga (especially Edward Cullen!!!).Her favourite book is The Memoirs of a Geisha. She is very matured by the way.Can you believe that she gets tired while eating (:O) ??
Next year she will go to NUALS (God willing), as she aspires to become a lawyer. So if you actually think about it…i’ve just got a few more months with her!! 😦 (But people, there is one thing that you should know about her;it is that she is ….a PIRATE!!! HE HE HE!!! ARR!!! 😉
When I was in 9th grade I was the laughing-stock of the class.that was one hell of a year …I tried so PATHETICALLY to be accepted as a part of the class and failed. As a part of trying to make myself accepted, I used to tease the two girls who sat in the front bench for reading books – while SECRETLY even I enjoyed reading them. Then towards the end of the year I slowly started accepting that if people can’t accept you the way you are….,then HELL with them.
Once the realization settled in I started reading books openly and publicly.Oh yes I was victimized once or twice once I started reading books but when they realized that their bullying is not having any effect on me, they stopped. Ever since then I have never ever hidden my love for books.
One of the main reasons that I love books is because I get to know life experiences of many people (whether fictional or real) .But the main reason that I like about books is that you are able to travel around the world at the expense of the characters in the books. This was one characteristic of books that helped me through 9th and 10th grades.
Actually if you think about it you can say that books acted as a sort of shrink for me. ;D
